Every standard Kokomo day charter requires a qualified independent captain, and you make the selection. HireYourCaptain.com makes the process quick and easy while giving you as much information and choice as you want.
This captain-selection process applies to standard Kokomo day-charter bareboat yachts. Full-service Superstar, fishing, and multi-day yacht charters use a different crew structure.
We designed captain selection to be as simple or as personal as you want it to be.
Kokomo Charters does not assign your captain.
YOUR CAPTAIN, IN SIX SIMPLE STEPS.
01RESERVE YOUR YACHT
Choose your yacht, date, start time, and charter duration through Kokomo Charters.
If you choose to prepay an estimated captain/crew deposit during booking, that deposit is for convenience only. It does not select, assign, or recommend a captain.
02CHECK YOUR EMAIL
After your yacht is reserved, you will receive a separate email from captains@hireyourcaptain.com inviting you to select your captain.
Click SELECT YOUR CAPTAIN to open the HireYourCaptain selection page for your trip.
03SEE YOUR CAPTAIN OPTIONS
HireYourCaptain initially displays up to three captain options for your selected yacht and charter time.
You can see captain availability, profile information, direct contact information, and ratings from previous charterers.
Want more choices? Click VIEW ALL CAPTAINS to see the complete roster of captains eligible for your yacht under its insurance requirements, including captains who are not currently showing availability.
Captain availability comes directly from each captain’s own HireYourCaptain calendar. Captains control and maintain their own availability.
04CHOOSE THE CAPTAIN YOU WANT
If you want the simplest option, choose any available captain and click SELECT THIS CAPTAIN.
Want to learn more first? You can review their profile, see ratings from previous charterers, or contact them directly before making your selection. You may interview a captain if you want to, but you do not have to.
The final choice is yours.
05CONFIRM YOUR SELECTION
After choosing a captain, HireYourCaptain asks you to confirm your selection.
The confirmation identifies the captain you selected and your charter details. Once you confirm, your captain selection is recorded directly through HireYourCaptain.
06YOU ARE CONNECTED DIRECTLY
Once you confirm your captain, HireYourCaptain sends confirmation directly to both you and the captain.
The confirmation includes your charter details and direct contact information so you and your captain are connected with each other.
Kokomo is notified after your selection so we can update the yacht reservation with the captain you selected. The selected captain is then added to our system and receives access to the booking information needed to prepare for your trip.
BRING YOUR OWN CAPTAIN
Already have a qualified captain you want to use? Bring your own.
The process is simple. Your captain submits their credentials directly through HireYourCaptain.com. HireYourCaptain collects the required information and sends it through the same vessel-insurance qualification process used for the other captains on the platform.
Once approved, your captain can remain on file for future eligible charters and does not need to repeat the full submission process for every outing, subject to maintaining current credentials and applicable insurance requirements.
You are never required to choose a captain simply because they are shown first in HireYourCaptain.

01IS SELECTING A CAPTAIN COMPLICATED?
No. If you do not have a captain preference, simply see who is available, choose a captain, and click Select. If you want more information first, you can review profiles and ratings or contact captains directly.
02DO I HAVE TO INTERVIEW A CAPTAIN?
No. An interview is completely optional. Most charterers simply choose an available captain and complete the selection online.
03CAN I SEE MORE CAPTAINS THAN THE FIRST OPTIONS SHOWN?
Yes. Click VIEW ALL CAPTAINS to see the complete roster for your selected yacht, including captains who are not currently showing availability.
04WHAT IF ONLY ONE CAPTAIN IS SHOWING AVAILABLE?
You can select that captain if you want the easiest option. You may also view the full captain roster, contact another captain directly, or bring your own qualified captain through the HireYourCaptain approval process.
05WHO CONTROLS CAPTAIN AVAILABILITY?
Each captain does. Captains maintain their own availability directly through HireYourCaptain.com. Kokomo Charters does not control captain calendars.
06CAN I BRING MY OWN CAPTAIN?
Yes. Your qualified captain can submit their credentials directly through HireYourCaptain.com for the same vessel-insurance qualification process used for other captains on the platform.
